Greetings and belated Happy New Year!
I'm relatively new to the project (although I did hang out in the
channel for a while last year) so let me introduce myself. My name is
Melissa Draper, and I'm from Australia. You'll find me Freenode and OFTC
irc networks as elky or elkbuntu.
I taught myself php in mid 2004 and have been using Linux since mid
2005. I've been involved in the community side of Free(Libre) and Open
Source Software for around 2 years now. My main focus has been with the
Ubuntu distribution of Linux, but for the past year I've also dedicated
time and effort to advocating womens' tech groups such as LinuxChix and
$project-women groups.
My efforts have so far seen me involved with two Ubuntu Developer
Summits (as a 'developer of community'), running a conf booth at the
premier Aussie F/LOSS conference (linux.conf.au), and recently notched
up public speaking triumph #4. All my speaking so far has been on the
gender subject.
I hope that 2008 will be a awesome year for Open Source projects such as
php, and of course, for the awesome gals like us that help make them rock!

Sincerely
Melissa Draper
